because all the cool kids are doing it. these are the inspirations that came to me instantly, and there are obviously lots of more.
Toulouse-Lautrec: At first I thought his style was pretty gross, but after I jumped off of the Mucha-bandwagon I started to love it. Flat, bold, striking.
Kaoru Ozaki: Author of my favourite comic, has some crazy awesome works besides that too though. I love her use of colors. [link]
Birds: Especially black and white ones hurrdurr
Dan Kim: GODDAMN THIS GUY. HE IS SO GOOD. Been a fan foreverrrrrr. [link]
Nintendo: Yep. Donkey Kong Country, Zelda, Pokemon and Mario. KIDDIE GRAPHICS!
Rudolf Koivu: Adored his works as a kid, grew up, still loved them. He has very pretty and colorful paintings, but his simple black and white works blow me away.
Yoshitaka Amano: I actually hated this guy until a few years ago. Very cool blacks and colors, even if some of his works are a bit too derp-y for my tastes haha! Love the smooth sense of movement.
Photography: All kinds of photos work for me, that pic is from Hannes Heikura, one of my favourites.
Bones: I bet you didn't see this coming! I basically grew up with this series, and I've been reading it ever since I learned how to do so. Smith's stortelling is a big influence, and he creates amazing athmosphere with seemingly simple blacks and whites.
